Jeff Gordon Oliphant1960 - 2005
Jeff Oliphant received his bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 1983, his Master of Science degree from the University of Arizona in 1984, and completed his doctoral work from the University of Iowa in 2005. While pursuing his master's degree, he completed an internship as the head athletic trainer at Pueblo High School in Tucson, Arizona. He served as the Head Athletic Trainer/Instructor at Central Arizona College for five years. In 1989, he became the head athletic trainer/instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, which position he held until 2002, when he became Program Director of the UW-Eau Claire Athletic Training Education Program.
Jeff has been active professionally in the community and state. He was the Treasurer/Membership Chair of the Wisconsin Athletic Trainers' Association from 1991-1997 and served as the WATA President from 2000-2006. In 1997 he was awarded the WATA Distinguished Service Award. Jeff served as a member of the Board of Certification Role Delineation and Research Committee from 1997-2001. He has volunteered, along with many of his students, as an athletic trainer for the Badger State Games wrestling venue for over 15 years and also helps coordinate medical coverage for the Indianhead Area Special Olympics events.
Jeff has dedicated his career as an athletic trainer to providing the best possible care for the athletes he has worked with and also to providing the best possible educational experience for his students. The professionalism and guidance that he has provided to his students has made a lasting impact on their lives. His many contributions to the WATA are fueled by his eager willingness to give back to the profession that he loves.
