Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association Annual Meeting and Symposium, March 2016, Wheeling, IL.

GLATA Research Committee Research Assistance Awards -The GLATA Research committee is now accepting applications for research assistance funds of up to $1500.  To be eligible for these funds you must be a certified member of the GLATA.  Two awards are available annually for certified student members.  There are two award cycles annually with application deadlines of September 15, 2015, and January 15, 2016.  Instructions and the application can be found at

Recruiting Wisconsin high school athletic trainers to assist our research staff with the following research study, titled "The Impact of Sport Specialization on Injury Rates in High School Athletes". This study is funded through the National Federation of High schools (NFHS). ATs who assist with the study will be paid a stipend of $800. Find out more!

The WATA honored its award winners at the 41st Annual Meeting and Symposium at the Potawatomi Hotel  in Milwaukee, WI on April 17th.  Inducted into the WATA Hall of Fame was Larry Sayles, ATC, LAT.  Chris Geiser, Scott Doberstein, MS, ATC, LAT and John Ochsenwald, MS, LAT were presented with the Outstanding Educator Award.  The WATA also presented Andrea Patterson of UW Eau Claire the Founding Fathers Scholarship, Jamie Destache of UW Stevens Point and Brandon Yach of UW Oshkosh the Mueller Undergraduate Scholarship, and Beth Kinslow, MS, LAT the Jeff Oliphant Post Graduate Scholarship.

The WATA honored outgoing Board of Director, Keith Owsley, who has served as the WATA Vice President for two terms.

Congratulations to Michael Deal, Brandon Yach, and Dan Meyer from UW Oshkosh for winning the GLATA Quiz Bowl in Wheeling, IL March 11-15.

The WATA would also like to recognize Steph Fall, ATC, of New Richmond High School, who was awarded the NATA Gatorade Secondary School Athletic Trainer Award.

The 2011 WATA Fall Symposium will be held November 5th, in Onalaska, WI. The course titled "Core Concepts for the Hip and Spine," is a lecture and hands-on symposium for athletic trainers and health professionals designed to present current concepts in protein-rich plasma treatments, the evaluation, treatment and manual therapies of the hip and sacroiliac joint.
