Thursday, May 1st
7:00 - 8:30pm Updating General Medical Skills
A review session for certified athletic trainers on general medical skills such as; auscultation of the heart & lungs, examination of the ear, nose, & throat, and eye injury assessment. Dr. Dan Kraeger, DO, ATC will lead the workshop, guiding participants through hands-on examination skills and provide examples of when immediate referrals are necessary.
7:00 - 8:30pm Lower Extremity Functional Assessment
This session is designed to be a workshop aiding the certified athletic trainer in identification and understanding of postural assessment, muscle imbalances, and flexibility concerns within the lower extremity. This hands-on session will focus on the relationship between the hip, pelvis, and knee joints and their effects on functional biomechanics and lower extremity injuries. Participants should bring/wear shorts for lower extremity evaluation.
Friday, May 2nd
8:00 - 9:30am Functional Yoga
Yoga has gained popularity within recent years, but is there a way to incorporate it into your practice of athletic training? In this session, Heidi Dix, MEPD, LAT and certified yoga instructor will lead participants through traditional yoga practice with an emphasis on rehabilitation and injury prevention. Participants will be able to both practice yoga and learn how to guide patients through new exercises. Yoga mats will be provided and participants are asked to dress for activity.
8:00 - 9:30am Upper Extremity Functional Assessment
This session is designed to be a workshop aiding the certified athletic trainer in identification and understanding of postural assessment, muscle imbalances, and flexibility concerns within the upper extremity. This hands-on session will focus on the scapulothoracic articulation and its effects on biomechanics and upper extremity injury. Participants should dress appropriately for upper extremity evaluation. |
