Governor Signs AT Practice Act Bill - Mar 16, 2010

 

On Monday, March 15th, 2010 SB 482 was signed by Governor Doyle completing the passage of our amended athletic training practice act. Please visit the Legislative Watch page on the WATA website for more information and a photo of the signing. Special thanks are extended to Representative Molepske and Senator Hansen for their leadership and willingness to take authorship and ownership of our bill. The entire WATA can be proud of how everyone involved in this process conducted their affairs in a respectful and professional manner especially in the proactive engagement of other professional associations and interests.

March is National Athletic Training Month - Feb 14, 2010

Get ready for NATM March 2010.  The theme this year is "Safety is a Team Effort."  Please go to http://nata.org/natm/index.htm for ideas on how you can promote our profession during NATM.  There is a whole PR kit as well as sample media alerts and PA announcements that you can use.
 
Here are some really simple ideas on how to celebrate NATM 2010.  These are quick and easy ideas especially if you don't have time to organize a big event or promotion. 

  1. Add the logo for NATM 2010 to your email signature file.
  2. Have the announcer at local athletic events recognize NATM with a brief description of our profession, you can find a specific script at  http://nata.org/natm/index.htm.
  3. Change your voicemail message stating that March is NATM.
  4. Send a press release to your local newspaper.  Sample press releases are also found on http://nata.org/natm/index.htm

WATA Legislative Day - Sep 15, 2009

The 2009 WATA Legislative Day will be held Wednesday, September 23rd. The day will begin at the Madison Concourse Hotel and finish with a visit at your respective legislator's offices in the State Capitol. Please make every possible effort to attend this very important event!

As you know, the WATA Governmental Affairs Committee has spent the past 2 years amending our Athletic Training Practice Act. We are ready to present our amendments to the legislature and we need your help to make our introduction a success. The day will consist of a morning symposium which will include guest speakers and legislators followed by complimentary lunch and an early afternoon visit with YOUR legislators.

There is NO COST to attend the event but you MUST preregister. Registration is simple and easy and only requires a simple email or phone call to Mindy Walker at Stenger Government Relations. A tentative agenda and registration information are listed below.

Objectives:
1. Participants will understand the specific changes to our practice act.
2. Participants will gain an understanding of the duties of the affiliated credentialing board
3. Participants will learn effective lobbying strategies
4. Participants will understand the role legislation may play in third party reimbursement
5. Participants will meet with their specific legislators and or staff

To facilitate planning we ask that you pre-register TODAY! You are welcome to show up on a "walk-in" basis but we cannot guarantee your lunch or a meeting with your legislators if you do not pre-register.

We will provide you with everything you need for your legislative visits including a packet of "leave behind" materials describing our education, our professional practice and our amended licensure act.

Students: Please make every effort to attend and encourage your ATEP program instructors to make arrangements for you to do so. UW LaCrosse will be sending their senior students and we challenge all of our ATEP programs to do the same.

The importance of this day cannot be overstated. This bill defines your practice and will substantially affect how and on whom you may practice your profession. Please register today so we may effectively present our case to the legislature on September 23rd! See you in Madison!!

WATA Golf Outing - Jul 31, 2009

On July 31st, 2009, 64 golfers welcomed the arrival of summer at the 13th annual WATA Scholarship Golf Outing. Foxfire golf club in Waupaca provided a fun, challenging course that tested the skills of better golfers while playing fairly to those of lesser abilities. The outing was a foursome scramble and played host to many WATA members and friends of the WATA. All proceeds from the annual golf outing are earmarked for the WATA Scholarship Fund.

 

The scramble was divided into Championship and Co-Ed teams. Placing first in the Championship flight with a score of 13 under par was the team of Larry Lemberger (Lifetec Inc), Charlie Lemberger, Steve Coenen and JohnMcCulley. The Co-Ed flight title was claimed by the team of Heidi Gutschow, Jeff Gutschow, Lori Neilitz and Don Huggins. Congratulations to this years winning groups!

WATA Annual Meeting Online Registraition is Available - Feb 3, 2009

Online registration is now open for the 2009 WATA Annual Meeting and Symposium being held April 23rd - 25th at the Madison Marriot West. This year's program, themed "Adding Value to Your Practice," allows you to earn up to 16 CEU's with the new three day format. Our featured speaker is Dr. Michael Collins from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He will present a series of presentations on head injuries and managing sports concussions. A variety of other speakers will present as well. Several focused workshops are also available. Don't miss the Annual Business Meeting, Awards Banquet, and other activities over the course of meeting.

Athletic Training Story on ESPN's "Outside the Lines" - Oct 21, 2008

This past Sunday morning (10/19/08), ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” included an excellent story on high school football deaths and the need for athletic trainers.
