The 2009 WATA Legislative Day will be held
Wednesday, September 23rd. The day will begin at the Madison Concourse Hotel
and finish with a visit at your respective legislator's offices in the State
Capitol. Please make every possible effort to attend this very important
event!
As you know, the WATA Governmental Affairs Committee has spent the past 2 years
amending our Athletic Training Practice Act. We are ready to present our
amendments to the legislature and we need your help to make our introduction a
success. The day will consist of a morning symposium which will include guest
speakers and legislators followed by complimentary lunch and an early afternoon
visit with YOUR legislators.
There is NO COST to attend the event but you MUST preregister.
Registration is simple and easy and only requires a simple email or phone call
to Mindy Walker at Stenger Government Relations. A tentative agenda and
registration information are listed below.
Objectives:
1. Participants will understand the specific changes to our practice act.
2. Participants will gain an understanding of the duties of the affiliated
credentialing board
3. Participants will learn effective lobbying strategies
4. Participants will understand the role legislation may play in third party
reimbursement
5. Participants will meet with their specific legislators and or staff

To facilitate planning we ask that you
pre-register TODAY! You are welcome to show up on a "walk-in"
basis but we cannot guarantee your lunch or a meeting with your legislators if
you do not pre-register.
We will provide you with everything you need
for your legislative visits including a packet of "leave behind"
materials describing our education, our professional practice and our amended
licensure act.
Students: Please make every effort to attend
and encourage your ATEP program instructors to make arrangements for you to do
so. UW LaCrosse will be sending their senior students
and we challenge all of our ATEP programs to do the
same.
The importance of this day cannot be
overstated. This bill defines your practice and will substantially affect how
and on whom you may practice your profession. Please register today so we may
